Long COVID: A Root Cause Approach to Restoring Immune Balance
Long COVID is a complex, post-viral condition affecting millions of people worldwide. Symptoms often linger for months—or even years—after an initial COVID-19 infection, leaving many feeling exhausted, brain-fogged, and debilitated without clear answers.
At the Restorative Medicine Center, we take a Root Cause Triad approach to Long COVID, identifying the deeper immune dysfunction and inflammatory imbalances driving symptoms. Rather than viewing Long COVID as a mystery illness, we recognize that the spike protein on the virus’s outer surface appears to have a biotoxin-like effect on the immune system, leading to widespread dysregulation.
Why Does Long COVID Happen?
For some people, the immune system clears the virus, and recovery is straightforward. But for others, the spike protein itself can create an ongoing immune imbalance, triggering persistent inflammation, autoimmunity, and reactivation of dormant infections.
This can manifest in different ways:
✅ Latent infections become unmasked – Previously well-controlled vector-borne infections (like Lyme, Bartonella, or Babesia) or fungal overgrowth (like Candida) may flare up, leading to a worsening of symptoms.
✅ Persistent immune activation against spike protein – In some individuals, the immune system remains dysregulated due to prolonged exposure to spike protein, keeping the inflammatory response in a chronic, overactive state.
✅ Vascular and inflammatory dysfunction – Some people experience ongoing inflammation in the blood vessels and tissues, contributing to fatigue, neurological symptoms, and post-exertional crashes.
Because of these multiple pathways, Long COVID is not a single disease—it is a state of immune dysregulation that affects different people in different ways.
Symptoms of Long COVID
- Severe fatigue and post-exertional crashes
- Brain fog, memory issues, difficulty concentrating
- Shortness of breath and chest pain
- Joint pain, muscle aches, and widespread inflammation
- Dizziness, POTS-like symptoms, and temperature dysregulation
- Persistent viral-like symptoms (low-grade fever, swollen lymph nodes, night sweats)
- Digestive issues, nausea, food sensitivities
- Depression, anxiety, mood swings

Why Traditional Medicine Falls Short
Most conventional medicine views Long COVID as a single condition, often labeling it as post-viral fatigue or dysautonomia and treating symptoms with medications alone. However, this ignores the deeper immune dysfunction and underlying infections that may be driving the problem.
A one-size-fits-all approach does not work because each person’s immune system responds differently to the spike protein’s effects. That’s why we use the Root Cause Triad to uncover what’s actually happening beneath the surface.
Our Root Cause Approach to Long COVID
Instead of simply managing symptoms, we focus on restoring immune balance, reducing inflammation, and addressing any reactivated infections.
Using advanced testing, we evaluate:
✅ Spike protein antibody levels – While there is currently no direct test for persistent spike protein in the body, spike protein antibody testing can provide indirect clues about immune system activity. However, this requires some assumptions about whether antibody levels correlate with lingering spike protein presence.
✅ Reactivation of latent infections – Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, Candida overgrowth
✅ Immune markers and inflammation levels – Assessing cytokine patterns, autoimmunity, and chronic immune activation
✅ Toxin and biotoxin load – Evaluating immune response to lingering spike protein effects
While there is currently no single test to assess mitochondrial function, energy production, or autonomic nervous system imbalance, we can infer dysfunction based on clinical patterns and other immune and inflammatory markers.
By identifying and treating the true underlying imbalances, we have successfully helped patients recover from Long COVID and restore immune function.
Long COVID is Treatable
If you’ve been struggling with persistent symptoms and have been told there’s nothing you can do but wait, we’re here to offer a deeper, science-backed approach to healing.
The key is to stop chasing symptoms and start restoring immune balance—allowing the body to clear the dysfunction and recover naturally.
Let’s work together to uncover the why behind your Long COVID and get you back to full health.
